Welcome to my new beginner lesson series, where I will help you learn Japanese with real sentences. This is your opportunity to study Japanese through natural input from my Japanese friends. I will guide you step by step, breaking down each sentence into words and patterns to help you improve your Japanese fast.
みなさん(✨^ω^✨)
おはようございます😃
Our first example is from my friend and dance instructor Hitomi-sensei (ヒトミ先生). It is the opening sentence of a message she sent to our salsa LINE group. By the end of this beginner-friendly lesson, you will not only be able to understand her words completely, but also start greeting people in Japanese yourself!
Learn Japanese with Real Sentences #1 (Beginner Lesson)
⏳ Study Time: 5-10 min
How to study Japanese by yourself:
- Read a Japanese sentence aloud
- Break down its words and meanings
- Review and level up your Japanese skills
Step 1) Learn to Read Japanese Sentences and Kanji
日本語
みなさん(✨^ω^✨)
おはようございます😃
1.1 漢字 (Kanji)
みなさん
おはよう ございます
1.2 カナ (Kana)
- みなさん
- おはよう
- ございます
1.3 ローマ字 (Romaji)
- みなさん (mina-san)
- おはよう (ohayou)
- ございます (gozaimasu)
Step 2) Study Japanese Words and Their Meanings
English Translation
- Good morning, everyone!
- Everyone, good morning!
2.1 みなさん (mina-san)
- Word: みなさん
- Word Type: noun
- Word Class: common, JLPT N5
- Word Formality: polite, honorific
みなさん
---
[noun] all, everyone, everybody
みなさん (mina-san) means “everyone” or “all“.
The noun is a polite and respectful way to address a group of people.
It is often used when speaking to an audience, classmates, coworkers, or a group of friends in a more formal or official setting.
Note: みなさん (mina-san) can also be written in kanji as 皆さん (みなさん, mina-san), but the hiragana version is more common in everyday writing.

2.2 おはようございます (ohayou gozaimasu)
- Word: おはようございます
- Word Type: set phrase
- Word Class: common
- Word Formality: polite
おはようございます
---
[set phrase] good morning
おはようございます (ohayou gozaimasu) means “good morning“.
The set phrase is the standard polite way to greet someone in the morning in Japanese.
It is perfect for teachers, coworkers, or anyone outside your close circle, since it shows politeness and respect.
With close friends or family, you can shorten it to just おはよう (ohayou).

みなさん(✨^ω^✨)
おはようございます😃
So with this sentence, my dance instructor Hitomi-sensei (ヒトミ先生) is greeting everyone in our salsa group chat in the morning.
She is simply saying hi and addressing the group politely before sharing her main message, which we will cover in a future lesson.
